Why do social media channels disconnect?

You may have noticed that Facebook Messenger and Instagram occasionally disconnect from Quicktext. This article explains why this happens and how you can minimize these disruptions.

Understanding Social Media Disconnections

Quicktext relies on access tokens provided by social networks to connect to your accounts. When an access token expires or becomes invalid, you must reconnect your social account to Quicktext to generate a new token.

Social networks implement policies and security measures to protect their users’ accounts and data. When they detect certain actions, such as logging in from a new device or modifying your account settings, they may force the token to expire, leading to a disconnection from Quicktext.

Common Causes of Disconnections:

1. Updates or Changes to Account Settings:
   - Changing the password or username of an admin user.
   - Removing an admin user from your profile.

2. Social Platform Security Measures:
   - Using alias usernames.
   - Accessing the account from multiple IP addresses.
   - Posting content flagged for copyright violations or other inappropriate material.
   - Simultaneous logins from different devices.
   - Using multiple Instagram accounts on the same device.
   - Detecting vulnerabilities in their system.

To avoid these issues, create a dedicated Facebook user with Administrator rights specifically for Quicktext, such as a profile with the email quicktext@hotels.com and a fictitious first and last name. Ensure this account is only used for Quicktext to prevent frequent disconnections.

Despite these precautions, it’s important to note that all platforms integrated with Meta experience similar issues, and Meta requires a reconnection every 60 days due to token refresh policies.

By following these guidelines, you can reduce the frequency of disconnections and maintain smoother integrations with Quicktext.
